Professor Marc Clement
Chairman
Professor Clement has a world class reputation in cosmetic and medical therapy. He is widely regarded as the father of the light-based therapy industry because he discovered the potential of lasers in cosmetic applications in 1979 and has led innovation in the field ever since. In the early nineties, he was commissioned by the then Secretary of State for Health Kenneth Clark to develop the British laser to treat skin conditions like the port wine stain. Prof. Clement holds 35 patents in the field of light-based cosmetic and medical therapy. He currently holds the Chair of Medical Devices and the Chair of Innovation at the University of Wales in Swansea.
Scott Wotherspoon
CEO
Scott Wotherspoon joined CyDen in November 2007 to run the consumer division, taking over as CEO in March 2009. Previously he worked for Unilever for 15 years in foods, Womens Health Care and Home and Personal care—predominantly in marketing, customer development and general management.
He had roles in Europe and Asia including living in Manila and Bangkok for a number of years. Most recently Scott led a €300m European Home Care Category based in Kingston.
Scott lives in London with his wife and three boys.
Michael Kiernan PhD
Founder and consultant to the company
Dr Kiernan has extensive clinical experience gained from almost two decades of working with light-based devices. He has won eight FDA approvals including the first laser approvals for hair removal, skin rejuvenation and acne. Dr Kiernan holds 15 related patents.
Jan Henning Simonsen
Founder
The Late Jan Simonsen was Technical Director and Founder of CyDen. Jan specialised in electronics and his technology was one of the principle drivers behind iPulse™. Jan was formerly a main Board Director of Bang & Olufsen in Denmark where he founded B&O’s medical device business, B&O Medicom.
Kevin Smith
Founder and Operations Director
Kevin is co-founder of four technology start-ups including CyDen. Prior to this he held numerous sales, marketing and commercial management positions with multi-national organisations including Alcoa, Alcan and McKechnie.
Ron Petersen
Business Development Director
Ron Petersen became CyDen’s CEO in 2004. He now is Business Development Director.
Ron spent over 20 years with Armstrong World Industries, managing global businesses from a London base. In 1992, Ron began to specialise in turning underperforming, or early stage companies, into profitable and valued concerns. Ron has also been directly involved in the founding of a number of ‘high-tech’ companies, particularly in the nanotechnology field. Ron is also co-founder of Longbow Capital LLP.
Godfrey Town
Director of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs
Godfrey is one of the world’s leading independent laser protection advisers. He has worked with UK and international bodies in the development of regulations and standards for lasers and intense pulsed light. Early in his very international career, Godfrey worked from bases as diverse as Hong Kong and Germany for companies like Carl Zeiss Meditech and Bayer Pharma before opening his own skin clinic in the UK. Godfrey heads CyDen’s research into new clinical applications for iPulse™ while working with CyDen’s international distributors to train them in using the iPulse™ devices.
Anna Ohlsson
Non-Executive Director
Anna is an Investment Director at Unilever Ventures, the London-based venture capital arm of the Unilever Group that invested in CyDen's series C funding round in 2008. Anna focuses on new investment opportunities, the structuring and execution of investments as well as the portfolio management of both consumer and technology oriented companies.
In addition to CyDen, she currently represents UV on the Boards of IOTA NanoSolutions Ltd, Kappametrics Ltd and BAC BV, and was a director of Vitamin Brands Ltd until its sale to PepsiCo Holdings in 2008. Anna started her career in investment banking in London in 1995 and has been active in venture capital since 1999.
Edward Beckett
Non-Executive Director
Edward Beckett is the Managing Partner and a co-founder of Longbow Capital. Edward has built up a broad range of experience as a director and as a CEO over the past 10 years which has included MBOs, MBIs, refinancing, and acquisition and disposal activities with more than 20 companies. Edward is the Investors' Director representative on the boards of CyDen, N-Fab, Direct Health.
